Hey, Elder Scrolls Online players! We have bad news and good news for you. The bad news is that you will have to download the game once again. The good news is that you get a free pet.

As you have probably heard by now, Update 25 is on its way. This is no ordinary game update. It is a massive patch that doesn't just address various game issues but also brings improvements regarding game performance such as stability and more. Update 25 begins with the Patching Overhaul. This is about the ESO client. This pre-update brings great improvements to the download, patch, and storage of the client. The Patching Overhaul will arrive first on PC on February 24^th. Consoles follow on March 10^th.

You might wonder why is this necessary and why should you care about it. In a few words, the update makes the game run better. The loading times will be reduced. One thing that you might have noticed about Elder Scrolls Online is how much disk space it takes. Each game expansion and content update add more and more.

The good news is that Update 25 implements a mechanism that decreases the size of future updates. The client will take less space and that's something for which we are all grateful.

All of these improvements sound great but you will have to re-download the game. It will take a while depending on your internet connection but you don't have to do anything else but to wait.

For an enthusiast Elder Scrolls Online player waiting is no easy job but unfortunately, there's no other way. Just open the launcher and it will sort things out on its own. User settings and add-ons will not be changed. However, you should do a back up just in case.

As a reward for putting up with a sizeable download, you will get a free pet. The Crimson Torchbug will find its way to all those who re-download the game. Check the Pets section in the crown store and you will be able to get your free pet. Just keep in mind that you have two weeks to claim the pet.

PC players have until March 9^th and console players have until March 24^th. Update 25 is a base game update so it's free. On the same day, the Harrowstorm DLC releases. This is a dungeon pack that adds two more dungeon challenges complete with set items, achievements, and collectibles.
